The Waterloo High School soccer team has busted out of the gate this fall to a 5-0 start, which included three victories and the first place trophy this weekend in the Carbondale Tournament.

Following a 4-0 victory over Carbondale to begin tourney play on Friday, the ‘Dogs notched wins against Chatham Glenwood and Perryville, Mo., on Saturday.

Ben Huels, Kane Osterhage, Clay Metz and Philip Most each scored goals in the Friday win. On Saturday, Waterloo trailed 2-0 against Chatham Glenwood before roaring back for the 4-2 win. Kane Osterhage — who along with teammate Chase Rubemeyer was selected to the all-tourney team — recorded a hat trick and Most added another as the ‘Dogs emerged victorious.

In the title game, Waterloo dominated a Perryville team that won the Missouri state championship last fall. Huels recorded a hat trick of his own in the win and Osterhage added his fifth goal of the tourney for a 4-0 win.

In other local soccer action, Gibault bounced back from a tough loss on Friday night to place third in the Metro Cup tourney at Freeburg on Saturday.

The Hawks (3-2) lost 2-1 to Springfield on Friday, with Logan Doerr notching the team’s only goal.

On Saturday, Dalton Scace scored the game-winner for Gibault in a 1-0 win over Marion.
