Rain canceled Mon-Clair Baseball League playoff action Wednesday and Thursday, forcing all four games of round one to be played on Saturday afternoon at Whitey Herzog Field in Belleville. The day started with an upset.

The No. 2 seeded Waterloo Millers squared off with the No. 7 seed Belleville Rockies to start the day. The game went 10 innings and not in Waterloo’s favor. Trailing 3-2 going into the fifth inning, Waterloo tied the game in the bottom of the frame. The game remained scoreless until the 10th inning — three extra innings — when the Rockies offense put up three runs and won the game, 6-3.

Following the game, the No. 1 seed St. Louis Spikes took care of business and beat the No. 8 seed Columbia Saints, 13-1. The No. 5 seed Valmeyer Lakers then used its offense to take down No. 4 seed Fairview Heights, 10-4. In the final game of the day, No. 3 seed Millstadt VFW shut out the St. Louis Printers, 6-0.

The semifinals and first game of the best-of-three championship game was played Sunday. Millstadt beat Belleville in a close 3-2 affair. In the second game of the day, and second semifinal, the Spikes held off Valmeyer for a 4-3 win. The Spikes kept momentum going into the first game of the championship series with a 4-1 win over Millstadt to end Sunday action.

Game two of the series will be played at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Longacre Park in Fairview Heights. If Millstadt wins, the series will go to a third game following the conclusion of game two.
