The Monroe County coroners office has released the name of the man found dead in his apartment Friday at 224 E. Third Street in Waterloo.

Janusz Sijka, 62, of Waterloo, was found in the afternoon of Aug. 7, after maintenance workers working at the apartment complex called authorities. An autopsy was performed but the cause of death has not yet been released, pending results of toxicology tests.

Sijka’s apartment is located across the street from the Monroe County Jail. The Waterloo Fire Department assisted Waterloo police by providing air masks for those entering the building.

Maintenance workers for the multi-unit apartment complex came across the body and notified police. It is believed the body had been there a few weeks, and mail outside the apartment unit had been accumulating for some time.

Police do not suspect foul play at this time.
