Erdman Esker
Erdman Esker, 72, of Granville, formerly of Fults, died May 16, in his home surrounded by his wife and family.
Erdie was born Nov. 18, 1942, in Red Bud, son of the late Everett and Evelyn Esker.
He married Carol Offermann on Oct. 30, 1961; she survives him.
He enlisted in the Army in 1961 and was honorably discharged in 1964 with the rank of E4.
Erdie spent most of his life working for grain elevators and retired from Cargill in Spring Valley, in 2000. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and craftsmanship.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Carol; daughter Lisa (Jim) Keen of Granville; seven grandchildren, Dan and Jesse Siegmann, James, Chelsea and Clay Keen, all of Granville, and Ashley Pfershy and Chase Esker of Millstadt; two great-grandsons, Evan Siegmann and Cayman Pfershy; and brothers Eugene (Gisela) Esker, Elvis Esker and Edwin Esker; along with nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Kevin Esker and Sherry Siegmann; brothers Edward and Ervin Esker; and one sister, Edna Page.
Services will be Thursday, May 21, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Helmer-Shields Funeral Home in Granville.
He will then be taken to Quernheim Funeral Home in Waterloo, where services will be held Saturday, May 23, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Military rites will be at 11:30 a.m.
Interment will be at a later date.
