Police investigating bullet hole found in residence

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and the Columbia Police Department are investigating a bullet hole found on a residence April 5 in the Country Crossings subdivision off Gilmore Lake Road.

It is believed the bullet was the result of target practice by some rural residents, but police have been unable to identify anyone using a firearm at that time that would have matched the bullet.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and Columbia Police Department will be conducting patrols in the Country Crossings subdivision and surrounding area over the next several weeks.

Both departments encourage any resident to contact law enforcement if they suspect or know of anyone using firearms in an unsafe manner.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Department can be reached at (618) 939-8651 and Columbia Police Department can be reached at 618) 281-5151.
