Lee Alfred Hoffmann
Lee Alfred Hoffmann, 81, of Waterloo, died March 30, 2015, in St. Louis.
He was born July 4, 1933, in Maeystown, son of the late Edwin J. and Rose Hoffmann (nee Lehman).
He married the former Grace Mary Lehr of New Athens on Aug. 4, 1956, and the couple resided in Waterloo their entire married life.
Mr. Hoffmann retired as executive vice president and treasurer of Medart Inc., in St. Louis, after 35 years of employment. After retirement, he served on the board of directors of Medart Inc. for several years.
Before his retirement, Mr. Hoffmann was the secretary-treasurer and a member of the board of directors of the Ki-Sol Corp. in St. Louis. He also served on the board of directors of the National Marine Distributors Association in Philadelphia, Pa.
Before employment at Medart, he worked as a traveling auditor for the Illinois Terminal Railroad Company in St. Louis.
Mr. Hoffmann served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was a former organizer, board member and treasurer of the Lou-Del Home Owners Association and the Lou-Del Sanitary District.
He served as treasurer of the Consistory of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Waterloo, and served on the new building, finance personnel and stewardship committees. He served as secretary-treasurer on the board of directors of the Waterloo Country Club; on the board of directors of the Monroe County Electric Cooperative; and served on the Monroe County Planning Commission and Land Use Committee.
He was past president of the Waterloo Lions Club, former member of the Swansea Moose Lodge, and former member of the Waterloo Rotary Club. He was a 55-year member of the Columbia Masonic Lodge #474.
He loved playing bridge with friends and traveling with is wife, Grace, and their children and grandchildren, even visiting a son and his family in Tokyo and later Singapore. He and his wife enjoyed cruises and traveling to foreign countries, as well as across the United States and Canada. He loved playing golf as a member of the Waterloo Country Club for 35 years.
He was an active member of Concord Presbyterian Church PCA.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and treasured the time spent with family.
Mr. Hoffmann is survived by his wife; sons John Warner (Candice Shamia) Hoffmann of St. Louis, and David Lee (Heather Balsbaugh) Hoffmann of Chicago and Singapore; grandchildren Sarah Maey Hoffmann, William Lee Hoffmann, Thomas David Hoffmann, Laura Jane Hoffmann, Elizabeth “Libby” Ridgeway Hoffmann and John “Jack” Marshall Hoffmann; sister Kay (Dennis) Ritzel of Ohio; and sisters-in-law Ruth (Wilmer) Schuster of Georgia, and Dorothy (Edward) Casleton of Florida; along with brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Kermit Hoffmann, and sisters Dorothy (Vernon) Hoffman, Ada (Warren) Osterhage, and Ardel (Halbert) Mueller.
Visitation is Friday, April 3, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home; and Saturday, April 4, from 10 to 11 a.m., at Concord Presbyterian Church PCA, Waterloo.
Funeral services will be April 4, at 11 a.m., at the church, Pastor Andrew Cheatham officiating.
Interment will follow at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery, Waterloo.
