The man who crashed his pickup truck in the area of 5700 Kaskaskia Road on March 15 died last week from his injuries.

The Waterloo Fire Department assisted the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and Monroe County EMS at the scene of the crash, which occurred about 8:30 a.m. Police said a Ford F150 driven by Scott Niggli, 32, of rural Waterloo, drove off the roadway at the “S” curve on Kaskaskia Road near Route 3, struck a culvert and went airborne before landing in a grassy area.

Survival Flight helicopter airlifted Niggli to Saint Louis University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. He was pronounced dead at the hospital on March 24.

Niggli, a native of Madison County, had worked as a landscaper and was most recently employed with Linnemann Lawn Care. In addition to his parents, Niggli is survived by a young daughter, Ava Niggli. Visitation takes place Tuesday at Meridith Funeral Home in Highland.

Memorials may be made to the Ava Niggli Education Fund.
