Another fire at Schorr Lake Winery
The Waterloo Fire Department was called about 4:45 a.m. Monday to a structure fire to a barn at Schorr Lake Vineyard & Winery at 1032 South Library Street. The barn was fully engulfed upon firefighter arrival.
This fire was to the same building that received extensive damage in a blaze late Wednesday night, but this fire was at the other end of the shed, which houses wine-making equipment and other tools.
“The owner told us that he had been putting out small hotspots since last Wednesday night with a garden hose, but the unburned portion of that shed that was remaining has now burned,” Waterloo Fire Chief Brett Wiegand told the Republic-Times. “There is no electric going to the building, so most likely the source of today’s fire was some remaining embers of the original fire.”
The entire building can now be considered a complete loss, Wiegand said, with the exception of any items the owner was able to remove from the building after firefighters extinguished the original fire.
