Waterloo woman dies in I-255 crash
A Waterloo woman was pronounced dead early Sunday following a crash on Interstate 255 near the Jefferson Barracks Bridge in South St. Louis County.
A 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by Lorraine D. Clark, 81, of Waterloo, was traveling in the wrong direction on I-255 east of Koch Road, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol, when it veered off the right side of the roadway for unknown reasons, struck a fence and went airborne before striking an embankment.
The crash is believed to have occurred about 7 p.m. Saturday. That’s when the Illinois State Police reported a wrong-way driver in a PT Cruiser on I-255.
However, the car was not found until about 5:40 a.m. Sunday morning, under the bridge in between the railroad tracks and the Mississippi River. Emergency responders pronounced Clark deceased at the scene.
Visitation for Clark, nee Davidson, is set for 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. until time of service Friday at Quernheim Funeral Home, Waterloo. Funeral services will take place 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
