Waterloo resolves zoning dispute
Following an executive session, the Waterloo City Council on Monday approved the settlement of a zoning dispute with the owners of a lot at 614 Hamacher Street near Mystic Oak Golf Course.
Waterloo Zoning Administrator Jim Nagel explained that Justin and Ryan Osterhage had purchased the lot when it was zoned R-5, which allows for multi-family structures such as duplexes, condominiums and apartments based on square footage.
In December 2012, however, the city rezoned the lot to R-6, which only allows for condos to be built there.
Following negotiations between the involved parties, the settlement approved Monday night calls for the building of single family homes, duplexes or condos on the lot, but no apartments.
Also at the meeting, public works director Tim Birk said utility relocation as part of the Route 3 improvement project will be completed soon.
Waterloo Mayor Tom Smith announced that a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of the new handicap-accessible fishing pier at Lakeview Park is set for 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10.
