A Columbia man died when his pickup truck collided with a tractor-trailer Thursday afternoon on Douglas Road near Millstadt.

Millstadt fire and EMS personnel responded along with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department and St. Clair County coroner to the crash, which occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m. Thursday on Douglas Road near Route 158. That portion of Douglas Road was closed to traffic for several hours as accident reconstruction crews investigated the crash.

The St. Clair County coroner’s office identified the deceased as 72-year-old Ronald E. Parres of Columbia.

Police said Parres’ westbound 2008 Dodge Ram crossed the center line and collided with an eastbound 2004 International tractor-trailer, which was hauling a large excavator. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
