A tentative trial date of Nov. 17 has been set in the case involving accused murderer Jordan Kuykendall.

It is alleged that during the morning of June 27, 2013, Kuykendall, 21, stabbed to death his 17-year-old ex-girlfriend, Erin Schneider, inside his home at 237 South Riebeling Street in Columbia.

He has entered a plea of not guilty to the charge of first-degree murder and remains in custody at the Monroe County Jail in Waterloo. The presiding judge in this case is Richard Aguirre.

Kuykendall, through attorney Clay St. Clair of the Crowder & Scoggins law firm, has opted to continue his case multiple times.

Monroe County State’s Attorney Kris Reitz, who is prosecuting the case, said that barring some sort of plea agreement or new defense motion prior to the next docket call date of Oct. 22, Kuykendall’s jury trial will occur the week of Nov. 17.

“Either we work it out, or there’s a good chance we go to trial at that time,” Reitz said. Schneider’s body was discovered in the basement area of the Kuykendall home shortly after noon on June 27, 2013.

She had an active emergency order of protection against Kuykendall that was set for a 1 p.m. court hearing on the day of her death. The petitioner in the filing was Shelly Ann Schneider on behalf of her daughter.

The respondent was Kuykendall. Kuykendall was injured in a head-on crash on Route 158 between Columbia and Millstadt shortly after the stabbing is believed to have occurred.

The Illinois State Police crash report alleged that he purposefully crossed the center line in the car he was driving and collided head-on with an oncoming Hummer.
