The Waterloo City Council on Monday night heard from a resident on North Moore Street about excessive speeding.

Becky Levendoski, who lives at 311 N. Moore Street. (between Illinois Avenue and Veterans Drive) requested a stop sign at the intersection of Moore Street and Illinois Avenue where the new fire station is being built.

Levendoski said she attended many of the planning meetings for the new fire station and thought that when the station is operational, something would be done.

She said two vehicles have been sideswiped outside of her home and believes it to be from motorists driving at excessive speeds on that portion of Moore Street.

Alderman Charlie Metzger, who was serving as mayor pro-tem while Mayor Tom Smith is in Germany as part of the group of 29 local residents visiting Waterloo’s sister city, said the matter will be turned over to the city council’s street committee for further discussion.

In other council news, public works director Tim Birk talked about the letting of a resurfacing project at the city park and ride lot. Cost of the project is slightly more than $144,000.

The council also approved a resolution authorizing the execution of a professional services agreement with HMG Engineers for services as part of the park and ride project.

Aldermen also approved the re-appointment of Donna Robert to the Waterloo Cemetery Board for the remainder of a three-year term to expire April 1, 2016.
