R-T All-Local Baseball Team

This year’s Republic-Times All-Local Baseball Team consists of players who excelled on the diamond this past spring, with some even ranking near the top in offensive or pitching categories for the entire St. Louis region.

Here is the 2014 team:

Wes Degener (Gibault) – Degener was among the top hitters in the area with a .495 average for the Hawks. He also had 6 triples, 41 runs scored and 19 stolen bases this spring.

Josh Fleming (Columbia) – Fleming, a southpaw, was dominating on the mound for the Eagles this spring, posting an 8-4 record with a 1.53 ERA and 91 strikeouts.

Austin Nunnery (Waterloo) – Nunnery, a righty, served as ace of the Bulldogs pitching staff this spring, and responded with a 6-2 record, 1.58 ERA and 62 strikeouts. He also hit .292 this spring.

Dakota Maus (Valmeyer) – Maus was a force on the mound and at the plate for the Pirates, posting a 7-1 record and 1.36 ERA with 88 strikeouts on the mound and a .394 average with 24 stolen bases and 38 runs scored on offense.

Jordan McFarland (Gibault)

 McFarland provided the most pop of this year’s All-Local Team, hitting 7 home runs and 10 doubles as part of his .437 average. McFarland also had 41 RBI and 10 stolen bases for the Hawks.

Quinten Spivey (Columbia) – Spivey was the sparkplug on offense for the Eagles, hitting .407 with 21 runs scored and 4 stolen bases.

Zach Neff (Gibault) – Neff was the ace of the Hawks pitching staff, and ranked among  area leaders in strikeouts with 92. The lefty posted a 7-4 record and 2.79 ERA on the hill, and also contributed offensively with a .313 average and 3 homers.

Devin Rice (Waterloo) – All good teams need a pitcher to close things out at the end, and Rice was among the area’s best. He earned 5 saves for the Bulldogs and posted a miniscule 1.44 ERA.

Auggie Ward (Gibault) – Ward had a successful senior season for the Hawks, hitting .383 with 5 triples, 36 RBI and adding 9 stolen bases.

Mark Nappier (Valmeyer) – Nappier was a tough out all spring for the Pirates, hitting .380 with 2 home runs and 34 RBI.

Cameron Touchette (Columbia) – Touchette posted strong all-around numbers on offense for the Eagles, including a .390 average, 18 runs and 10 stolen bases.

Austin Campbell (Waterloo) – Campbell was the top hitter for the Bulldogs most of the spring, hitting .400 with 18 runs scored and 6 stolen bases.

KJ Spisak (Columbia) – Spisak was a force behind the plate for the Eagles and hit .365 with 21 RBI and 5 doubles.

Zach Schaab (Waterloo) – Schaab posted strong all-around numbers on offense for the Bulldogs with a .356 average, 14 RBI, 12 stolen bases and 2 triples.

Corey Biggs (Dupo) – Biggs was impressive at the plate and on the mound for the Tigers, hitting .348 with 26 runs and 18 stolen bases and posting a 3.14 ERA on the mound.

Mitch Meyer (Gibault), Jonny Albers (Waterloo), Camren Shewfelt (Columbia), Chandler Purcell (Gibault), Ryan Aycock (Waterloo), Kane Osterhage (Waterloo), Jeremy Rettig (Waterloo), Tyler Hebel (Waterloo), Zach Mathews (Columbia) and Joey Mirabal (Dupo)
