The Columbia and Gibault girls soccer teams each won regional championships Friday night to advance to the Columbia sectional.

The Eagles won the Class 1A Freeburg Regional by virtue of a 2-1 win over Althoff. Lauren Kaempfe was the star of the game for Columbia, netting both of the team’s goals. Lauren Tolan assisted on both goals. Goalie Allison Riddle was solid in net, making 13 saves in the victory.

The Hawks won the Class 1A Anna-Jonesboro Regional in easy fashion, blasting Anna-Jonesboro 5-0 in Marion. Maddie O’Neill scored three goals for the Hawks, with Monica Shuler and Hillary Wessel adding the other scores. Kendra Davis registered a shutout in goal for Gibault.

The stage is set for these two soccer rivals to collide in the sectional finals next week if both can win their Tuesday night matchups.

Columbia will play the winner of the Mater Dei-Olney East Richland regional final in their sectional game; Gibault gets the winner of the Alton Marquette-Civic Memorial regional final. Sectional action takes place at 5 and 7 p.m. Tuesday at Columbia High School.
