U.S. Congressman Bill Enyart (D-Illinois) announced the names of students he has nominated to the United States service academies. Among the nominees are students from Columbia, Waterloo, Smithton and Millstadt.

The academies to which Enyart has submitted nominees include the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), U.S Naval Academy and U.S. Air Force Academy.

Each member of Congress may nominate candidates for these service academies. The number of nominees is limited by class size and the number of the congressman’s nominees who are currently enrolled. The nominees must then be screened for acceptance by their prospective academy.

Enyart hosted a reception for nominees and their parents at his Belleville district office on Jan. 25.

“These students will be the future leaders of our armed forces, and I look forward to them carrying on the proud tradition of those who have gone before them,” Enyart said.

The nominees include:

U.S. Military Academy

Samuel Braunseis of Waterloo, son of Russ and Teresa Braunseis

U.S Naval Academy

Addison Ferry of Millstadt, son of Clark and Patricia Ferry; Dan Lindauer of Smithton, son of Scott and Leslie Lindauer; and Paul McClanahan of Columbia, son of Jeff and Lori McClanahan

U.S. Air Force Academy

Nicholle MacKeen of Millstadt, daughter of Richard and Mary MacKeen.
