Swift accumulation of snowfall, subzero temperatures and all-around nasty winter weather this past week resulted in significant damage inside First Baptist Church of Waterloo.

Pipes burst in a few places inside the church’s hallway on Tuesday, leading to destroyed ceiling panels, soggy carpeting and buckled floorboards.

Luckily, falling ceiling tiles triggered the church’s security alarm, and police were able to notify appropriate staff members before damage could worsen.

Volunteers and church staff are working to restore the hallway and classroom areas as soon as possible.

Worship services were still expected to take place at the church on Sunday.
