Area fire calls

The Waterloo Fire Department was dispatched to a chimney fire reported at 4701 Kern Road around 10 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Waterloo Fire Chief Mark Yeager said there was a severe buildup of creosote in the chimney flue, which led to smoke in the house. Fortunately, the matter was dealt with before any serious damage could occur.

The Columbia Fire Department was called to a report of a truck fully engulfed in flames on I-255 northbound near mile marker 7 around 8:30 p.m. Thursday. No injuries were reported. The driver, a man from East St. Louis, and his girlfriend safely exited the vehicle.
