The Waterloo High School boys basketball team earned its first win of the season at home Tuesday night against Freeburg, but it took overtime to do it.

Tied at 36 after four quarters, the Bulldogs caught fire by outscoring Freeburg 14-3 in the extra frame en route to a 50-39 win.

Shane Lenhardt led the way for the Bulldogs with 13 points, followed by Zach Schaab with 12.

After the game, Waterloo head coach C.J. Cruser said his players were fatigued much of the contest, since they were able to practice only once in the last four days due to the weather.

“But late in the game, when they smelled blood, they went into high gear,” he said. “I’d like to see this energy earlier in the game.”

The Bulldogs (1-3) host conference foe Triad on Friday night.
