HSS, Hecker come to terms
While little information is being divulged at this time, Human Support Services has come to an agreement with the village of Hecker to build two group homes that will house four developmentally disabled persons each in the Freedom Village subdivision.
A federal lawsuit was filed by HSS on Oct. 4, after the Hecker Village Board denied a special use occupancy request for the proposed homes.
“We have been issued building permits and have started construction with the understanding that we can use the group homes as we had wanted to,” HSS Executive Director Rob Cole stated in an email to the Republic-Times. “We look forward to being good neighbors in Hecker and will do our best to fit into the community.”
Cole declined further comment on the matter as negotiations are ongoing.
Hecker Mayor Charles Kujawski did not respond to multiple attempts seeking comment on the matter.
