Rogers Elementary briefly put on lockdown

Rogers Elementary School in Waterloo was briefly put on lockdown around 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, as a precaution due to information regarding spousal conflict off campus, Waterloo superintendent Jim Helton told the Republic-Times.

Helton said the school followed district safety measures until the situation was assessed. This involved all students remaining in their classrooms and the locking of all doors. Police handled the situation without any harm caused to students.

“The other buildings were put on notification, and it did delay the running of the buses by five minutes due to our bus transfer in front of Rogers and Gardner elementaries,” Helton said. “Our first priority is the safety of the students. The local law enforcement did a great job of communication, and our staff executed our safety procedures well.”

Below you can listen to a recorded message from Helton addressing the matter.
