Girls hoops tourneys wrap up this weekend

The Columbia Eagles fell to the Greenville Comets in the championship game of the Columbia Tip-Off Classic girls basketball tournament on Friday night, 54-22. The Eagles got on the scoreboard first, but it would be their last lead of the game. Columbia’s scoring was led by Kalli Farmer with 6 points, followed by Jackie Baskett with 4 points.

In the third place game of the Tip-Off Classic on Friday, Waterloo topped conference rival Triad, 42-30, in a fast-paced, physical game. Taylor Augustine led the Bulldogs with 11 points, followed by Hope Elliott and Kaitlyn Storm, who scored 7 points each.

Gibault lost to Alton Marquette in the consolation game on Saturday, 43-37, but outscored Marquette in the second, third and fourth quarters.

In Dupo’s Cat Classic, New Athens played last year’s tourney champ Roxana Saturday afternoon in the title game. Dupo battled Chester in the third place game, winning 50-44, and Valmeyer played St. Louis Christian Academy for seventh place.

On Wednesday night, the Columbia Eagles battled past cross-county rival Waterloo, winning 55-49. Columbia advanced to the title game against Greenville with the win.

Farmer and Danielle Stellers led the Eagles with 13 points apiece against Waterloo, while Augustine scored 16 for the Bulldogs.

After falling to Waterloo in their first game of the Tip-Off Classic, Gibault outlasted Metro East Lutheran on Wednesday night, 56-50. Kendra Davis led the way for the Hawks with 20 points.

After winning in overtime on Monday, Dupo fell to New Athens in the Cat Classic on Wednesday, 51-15.
