Valmeyer dominates Dupo in volleyball Thursday
Valmeyer’s Lady Pirates volleyball team and the fight against breast cancer were the two winners Thursday night in a home contest against the Lady Tigers from Dupo, who played under the “Dig Pink” theme at schools throughout Illinois this month.
The evening was dominated by the color pink, seen on both schools’ uniforms and throughout the large and predominantly Valmeyer fan section. One attendee, George Obernagel, went so far as to dress in a pink tuxedo.
The 2008 Valmeyer Pirates volleyball team that advanced to the IHSA Class 1A Elite Eight was honored before the game. The Valmeyer homecoming 2013 court was introduced between the two varsity contests. Winners of the 50-50 drawing, as well as of silent bids for numerous donated items were also announced.
The opening match saw the two teams trade points up to a 5-5 tie. Valmeyer settled down and pulled away to a 25-13 victory.

The Pirates’ next regular season match is set for Monday at Gibault.
