It was the Rick Wiegand show in Waterloo, as the Bulldogs put on an offensive display to defeat Civic Memorial, 38-20, Friday night in their homecoming football game. Waterloo moves to 3-2 with the conference win.

CM jumped to an early lead on a 46-yard touchdown on their first drive of the game, but Waterloo came back and tied the score less than three minutes later on a 1-yard run by Steven Schad — made possible by the nearly 60 yards Wiegand rushed on the drive.

After trading touchdowns with the Eagles, the Bulldogs got on the board again when Wiegand returned a kickoff for 98 yards, taking a 21-14 lead into halftime.

CM started the second half by marching down the field to their own 1-yard line, where Waterloo’s Sean O’Guin recovered a fumble and took away their chance at putting more points on the board.

The Eagles scored on their next possession, but missed the extra point, and from there it would be the Bulldogs’ game.

Waterloo’s final two touchdowns came on a 10-yard carry by Schad and a 57-yard reception by Reid Hoffmann, respectively.

In other local football action, Columbia improved to 5-0 with a convincing 33-2 road win at Carlyle. They got on the board first on an interception. Their final TD came on a 73-yard pass from quarterback Brock McGowan to Jacob Hill.

Running back Lou Isringhaus had another huge night for the Eagles, with more than 170 yards rushing and a touchdown.

Dupo extended their winning streak to two with a 42-21 road victory over Wesclin, while Red Bud fell to Freeburg, 27-6.
