The Southern Illinois Bulldogs Wrestling Club has had another successful start to its season.

The local youth wrestling club traveled to Chicago at the beginning of the month and competed in the IKWF Dual State Championships for ages 10-14.

The Bulldogs brought home fourth place from this tournament. This is the first time the Bulldogs have placed in the top four.

The Bulldogs have also had success at local tournaments, placing first at Bethalto, the Bulldog Brawl, Granite City Holiday Classic and PSF in Mt. Vernon.

Maverick Sicka, 5, of Red Bud, recently received the Trinity Belt. He accomplished this by placing first at three elite tournaments in the Chicago area.

Regionals take place this Sunday, with several Bulldogs competing for the opportunity to begin their road to the state tournament in Peoria in March.

Southern Illinois Bulldogs Wrestling Club is the feeder program for several local high schools including Red Bud, Waterloo and Freeburg. If you have questions or are interested in joining the club, contact head coach Butch Schloemann at 314-712-3403.
