Gerald J. Toennies | Obituary

Gerald J. Toennies, 86, of Waterloo, died Sept. 2, 2024, in Waterloo. He was born April 9, 1938, in Damiansville.

He was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Church – Waterloo, Holy Name Society and a truck driver for Keim Trucking.

He is survived by his wife Sharon Toennies (nee Keim); children Mark Toennies (special friend Jim Tibbetts), Barb Toennies, Randy (Julie) Toennies; grandchildren Zander Toennies, Skylar Toennies, Ayden Toennies and Delaney Toennies; siblings Bernice “Bim” (Franklin) Fuehne , Marie (Greg) Niemeyer, Janet (Tom) Eversgerd and Germaine Schulte; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nieces; nephews; and cousins.

Gerald is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Margaret A. (nee Santel) Toennies; brothers Norman, Cletus, Joseph, Alvin and Walter Toennies; sisters Lucille Albers and Emma Toennies.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Sept. 4 and 8-9:30 a.m. Sept. 5 at Quernheim Funeral Home in Waterloo.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 5 at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo with 

Father Linus Umoren C.M. officiating

Interment will immediately follow at Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Waterloo.

As an expression of sympathy, the family prefers memorial contributions to: Alzheimer’s Association; or Diabetes’s Association.
