Ice hockey has returned to Waterloo. The Waterloo Bulldogs and Freeburg Blue Rage club teams have merged to form the “Raging Bulldogs” in the Mississippi Valley Club Hockey Association for the 2013-14 season.

The club will have both varsity and junior varsity teams, led by head coach Nick Dreyer, a veteran of both the former Waterloo hockey program and the McKendree Bearcats. Assistants John Rayfield and Scott Roberts, former teammates of Dreyer at Waterloo and McKendree, will round out the coaching staff.

Waterloo last had a club hockey team in 2010. Dwindling numbers due to the absence of a feeder program forced the team to fold after 12 years. In that time, the team was 113-75-12, with two league championships.

The team is open to both Waterloo and Gibault High School students, as well as eighth graders in the Waterloo School District and at Ss. Peter and Paul School. They will hold five summer practices, starting July 22, at the Shark Tank in South St. Louis County. Anyone interested in playing hockey for the Raging Bulldogs is invited to participate in one or all of the summer practice sessions.
