Local man dies in motorcycle crash

Ray Mesa

A motorcycle crash in Monroe County claimed the life of a local man over the weekend.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department said that at about 12:20 a.m. Sunday, a 2015 Harley-Davidson Street Glide driven by Ray D. Mesa, 37, of Waterloo, was traveling south on D Road at the intersection with Estate Drive near New Hanover when his motorcycle left the roadway to the right.

Mesa’s motorcycle came to a rest approximately 150 feet south of Estate Drive, police said, and the rider was located approximately 10 feet farther south of the motorcycle during police arrival.

An ARCH Air Medical Services helicopter was initially requested for medical transport, but Monroe County EMS ultimately took Mesa by ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County for treatment of injuries listed as critical in nature.

Mesa was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

“The kids and I are lost and shattered to share Ray was in a motorcycle accident Saturday night. His injuries were greater than our pleads and prayers,” Ray’s wife Jessie Mesa posted on Facebook. “He peacefully passed in Korbin and Delanie’s arms. We don’t know how to exist without him. He is the absolute kindest and greatest. We love you so much! You took so much pride in loving me and our kids. Best dad, husband and friend we could ask for. We forever miss you.”

A GoFundMe for Jessie Mesa and the couple’s two young children has been set up.
