Columbia senior facility sued

A lawsuit was filed in Monroe County Circuit Court alleging violation of the Nursing Home Care Act by BRIA of Columbia, 253 Bradington Drive.

In the suit, Rick Davis, as guardian of the estate of Shirley Davis, a disabled adult who had been admitted to BRIA of Columbia in December 2017, alleges Shirley fell more than 10 times at the facility from August 2022 to April 2023 while in the care of BRIA staff.

Court documents note Shirley hit her head and received X-rays as a result of several of these falls.

The lawsuit further alleges BRIA was negligent in that its staff failed to provide reasonable and ordinary care, evaluation, monitoring or supervision, and BRIA failed to take necessary precautions or implement interventions to prevent future falls.

Damages are sought in excess of $50,000 plus attorney’s fees and court costs.
