The Columbia Fire Department responded shortly after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to a gas leak reported inside a residence in the 200 block of North Metter Avenue.

The leak was called in by an Ameren employee who reported a residence filled with gas. Ameren disconnected gas and electric service to the home upon discovering the leak.

Firefighters assisted in airing out the residence following the leak, which resulted in strong gas levels detected in the basement of the home.
