Retha M. McGee | Obituary

Retha Mae McGee, 93, of Dupo, died peacefully on July 8, 2024, in Dupo. She was born Sept. 19, 1930, in Arcadia, Kan., to Oscar and Viola (nee Workman) Palmer.

She was a lifetime member and the oldest living member of the First Baptist Church in Dupo. Retha first worked at K-Mart and then became a librarian at the Daugherty Public Library in Dupo. She enjoyed cooking, watching movies on TCM and drives in the country, but she was happiest when spending time with her family.

Surviving are her daughters Elaine (Les) Simmons, Susan Spihlmann and Linda (Howard) Martin; sister Alice Stanger; grandchildren Christa (Jerrod) Mahon, Jennifer (Geoff) Berry, Brian Spihlmann, Cody Spihlmann, Corey (Liz) Martin and Lindsay (Blake Fuhler) Martin; great-grandchildren Austin and Carson Mahon, AJ, Anderson, Wyatt Berry and Ryker, Lyncoln, Izabel and Harper Spihlmann; along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Viola Palmer; step-mother Georgia Palmer; sisters Opal Smith and Wilma Graves; and son-in-law Larry Spihlmann.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. July 10 at Leesman Funeral Home in Dupo and 9-10 a.m. July 11 at the First Baptist Church in Dupo.

A funeral service will follow at the church with Rick Lay officiating. 

Interment will be in the Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, St. Louis.
