The Republic-Times Athlete of the Week is Waterloo High School softball standout Maddie Gummersheimer. The recent graduate was a key member of a Bulldogs squad that placed fourth in Class 3A at the state tournament after winning conference, regional and sectional titles. Gummersheimer hit .355 this season with a .425 on base percentage, 10 doubles, a home run, and 20 RBIs.
