Fleeing motorcyclist injured, arrested

A Waterloo man is facing felony charges in addition to recovering from his injuries following an early Monday evening incident on his motorcycle.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department said that shortly after 6 p.m., deputies were dispatched to complaints of a male driver standing up on the seat of his motorcycle as it drove southbound on Bluff Road.

The callers stated this motorcyclist was performing tricks on his bike and was last seen turning eastbound on HH Road.

A deputy spotted this motorcycle a short time later. As the deputy turned around behind the motorcycle, the driver turned into a driveway on North Moore Street before pulling back onto the roadway.

After committing a traffic violation, the MCSD said this deputy unsuccessfully attempted to stop the motorcycle.

The motorcycle turned westbound on HH Road from North Moore Street near Waterloo and fled from the deputy, who continued behind before terminating due safety concerns.

The motorcycle continued westbound on HH Road at a speed in excess of 100 miles per hour, the MCSD said.

A short time later, the deputy located the motorcycle crashed with its driver pinned underneath on HH Road at Deer Hill Road.

Deputies provided medical attention until Monroe County EMS arrived and transported the driver to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

A loaded 9mm Taurus handgun was located as deputies arrested the driver.

Once released from the hospital, the motorcyclist was transported to the Monroe County Jail, where he remains in custody pending a pre-trial hearing.

On Tuesday, Bobby J. Hutson, 43, of Waterloo, was charged with aggravated fleeing/eluding police and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.
