Goals galore in girls soccer

Gibault’s Emily Richardson has eight goals and two assists in three games to start the season. 

The time is always right to score goals in girls soccer, and a few local athletes are doing just that at the start of the spring season. 

Gibault has won two of its three matches to kick off its 2024 campaign. 

On Monday, the Hawks picked up an 8-1 win over Breese Central at Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville. Emily Richardson, a junior, led the way with five goals and an assist for Gibault. Elena Oggero added a goal and three assists. 

On Saturday, the Hawks lost 2-1 in a hard-fought match with Roxana at SWIC. Aubry Thomas scored for Gibault on an assist from Kamille Grohmann. 

Last Tuesday, Gibault opened its season in grand fashion with a 10-0 blasting of Metro East Lutheran. Richardson netted a hat trick and had an assist. Thomas and Karmon Grohmann each scored twice. 

Gibault plays Wednesday in a rematch against Roxana, then plays at rival Columbia on Thursday and hosts Belleville East on Monday. 

Columbia is 4-0 to start the season following two more recent victories. 

On Tuesday, the Eagles won 2-0 at home over Marquette.

On Saturday, the Eagles won 5-0 at home over Collinsville. Maddie Mauch finished with two goals and two assists. Riley Mathews added two goals and an assist.

Last Tuesday, Columbia won 6-1 over Alton at Althoff. Mauch netted a hat trick and contributed two assists. Sarah Ross added two goals for the Eagles, who host Gibault on Thursday and travel Monday to Father McGivney. 

Waterloo is 3-0-1 on the young season. 

On Tuesday, the Bulldogs blasted Mater Dei at home, 5-0. Liv Colson netted two goals and assisted on another.

On Monday, the Bulldogs posted a 4-2 win at Althoff. Megan Young scored twice, Colson and Kate Pohl contributed a goal and assist each, and Larkin Nottmeier made six saves in net for Waterloo. 

Last Tuesday, the ‘Dogs tied 1-1 with Belleville East. Nottmeier made five save in net. Kate Pohl scored for the ‘Dogs on an assist from Grace Pohl. 

Waterloo will be at Mississippi Valley Conference foe Civic Memorial this coming Tuesday.
