Mason Kinney | Obituary

Mason Alexander Kinney, 19, of Red Bud, died March 6, 2024, at Red Bud Regional Hospital, Red Bud.

He was born to Nathan and Bethany (nee Dannenberg) Kinney on June 18, 2004 in Red Bud.

Mason was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Red Bud (Prairie). He was a 2022 Red Bud High School graduate and participated on the golf and track teams. Mason was in his second year at Concordia University in Mequon, Wisc., majoring in history with a secondary degree in Lutheran education. He had been a member of the university track team.

Mason’s passion was music. He loved old country and rock music. He was taking guitar lessons while at college. Mason had also worked at Schnucks in Waterloo during his school breaks. He was known for his patience. Mason always put other people first and didn’t want to be the center of attention.

Survivors include parents Nathan and Bethany Kinney of Red Bud; sister Eva Kinney of Red Bud; grandparents Myron (Suzanne) Kinney of Sparta, and Roland and Karen S. Dannenberg of Red Bud; great-grandmother Winona Hampleman of Pinckneyville; aunts and uncles Noel and Heather Kinney of Westfield, Ind., Meileigh and James Brubaker of Richardville, Va., and Matthew (Amy) Dannenberg of Red Bud; cousins Celby Kinney, Alexis Duran, Dillion Dannenberg, Dalton Dannenberg, Colt Kinney, Ryker Brubaker and Piper Brubaker; and godparents Ron Hughes of Red Bud, Jody Stapleton of Waterloo, and James Schnepel of Belleville.

He was preceded in death by an Infant sibling and grandmother Cynthia Kinney.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. March 8 and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 9 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Bud.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. March 9 at the church, with Rev. Mark Nebel and Rev. Scott Hojnacki officiating.

Interment will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Red Bud.

Memorials may be made to Concordia University in Mequon, Wisc., St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Bud, or Trinity Lutheran Church, Red Bud (Prairie).
