2013 Spring Awards Edition
The Republic-Times 2013 Spring Awards Edition hit news stands Wednesday.
In the inaugural year of the Republic-Times All-Local Team, the R-T unveils its last class of All-Local teams for the 2012-13 school year. The June 19, edition features the 2013 All-Local Baseball/Softball Team and the 2013 All-Local Girls Soccer Team, along with school athletic awards photos and All-Conference selections.
The R-T is also proud to announce its first Male and Female Athletes of the Year in this week’s spring awards edition. Here, we congratulate Columbia’s Savannah Wittenbrink and Waterloo’s Justin Kretchmer, the 2013 Republic-Times Athletes of the Year.

Pena, Ruff 2013 R-T softball/baseball MVPs
The Republic-Times has named Columbia’s Taryn Pena (left) and Gibault’s Zach Neff (right) this year’s All-Local Softball/Baseball MVPs. Pena led the area at the plate and was the backbone of the solid Columbia pitching staff as the Eagles’ catcher. Neff led the Hawks to the baseball pro- gram’s first state title, pitching four of the team’s seven post-game victories, including the Class 1A state champi- onship game. (Teryn Schaefer photos)
Davis is 2013 R-T Girls Soccer MVP
The Republic-Times has named Gibault’s Kendra Davis the 2013 All-Local Girls Soccer MVP. Davis helped lead a stellar Hawks defense to the Freeburg Sectional Finals this season with 10 shutouts in 19 games.
