Firearms stolen from unlocked Waterloo vehicles

The Waterloo Police Department is investigating several thefts from vehicles early Sunday morning in the Stonefield and Vandebrook subdivisions off Route 3 at the south end of the city.

Firearms were among the items stolen from inside the vehicles.

“We are asking anyone who may have video, or had noticed any suspicious activity between 1-6 a.m. (Sunday), to please contact the police department at 618-939-8651,” the WPD posted on Facebook.

The WPD said Monday that it fielded reports on 16 total vehicles, all of which were unlocked.

There were eight total firearms taken in the break-ins, with one gun since recovered by police.
