Elinor C. Baird | Obituary

Elinor Catherine Baird, 90, of Crystal City, Mo., died Jan. 16, 2024, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Festus, Mo.  She was born Oct. 12, 1933, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Ida (nee Poppen) and James Grant. Her adopted parents are the late Carolina (nee Poppen) and Leroy Van Horn.

She is survived by her children Curtis R. Baird of Glen Carbon, Phyllis (Lonnie) Buckowitz of St. Louis and Thomas W. (Eileen) Baird of Beachwood, N.J.; half-sister Marsha (the late Donald) Walker of Florida; grandchildren Michelle (Phil) Reichardt, Jennilee (Dax) Lloyd, Ryan (Amy) Young, Kelly LaBanca, Jessica (Nathanael) Price, Kayla (Ben) Buckowitz, Alexander Buckowitz, Anne Baird and Tommy Baird; great-grandchildren Breanna (Kody) Love, Jakob Reichardt, Mason Reichardt, Grant Reichardt, Madison LaBanca, Journey Lloyd, William Lloyd, Rigel Young, Rowan Young, Alma Schneider, Ellis Schneider, Sampson Schneider, Hudson Buckowitz, Asher Buckowitz and Wrenley Buckowitz; great-great grandchildren Kashton Love, Raina Love and Daylan Love; and her special pets Odie, Oliver, Macy, Cali, Ruby and Baby Kitty.

In addition to her parents and adopted parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Ralph W. Baird; siblings James (the late Dorothy) Grant and Geraldine Aldrich.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Jan. 25 at Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus, Mo. 

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m.  Jan. 26 at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Tish Green. 

Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights, Ill.  

Memorials in Elinor’s memory are preferred to: the American Diabetes Association; or  a local Humane Society.
