An investigation is underway after a young man was found deceased Saturday morning in a Waterloo park.

Waterloo police said an unresponsive 25-year-old male was discovered about 8:30 a.m. at Konarcik Park, 5303 Konarcik Road. He was pronounced deceased on scene.

Those visiting the park about that time observed several emergency vehicles surrounding a car.

Although no foul play is suspected, police said Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services was called in to process the scene due to the nature of the man’s death. This is a common procedure when dealing with untimely deaths in an effort to rule out the possibility of foul play.

On Tuesday, Monroe County Coroner Bob Hill confirmed a deputy coroner responded to Konarcik Park for a male found deceased in his vehicle. The deceased was identified as 25-year-old Jack Jones of Waterloo.

“On-scene investigation by the coroner’s office and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit have determined this was a self-inflicted injury,” Hill said. “Toxicology results are pending.”

Funeral services for Jones take place from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Quernheim Funeral Home, Waterloo.
