Emergency personnel responded about 12:25 p.m. Monday to a crash involving an SUV and a semi tractor trailer on Route 159 at Wiegand Road south of Hecker in Monroe County.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department said a 2019 Buick Enclave driven by 46-year-old Natalie Watson of Cahokia Heights was traveling north on Route 159 and attempted to pass a 1997 Peterbilt driven by Edward Schaefer, 62, of Waterloo, which was making a signaled wide right turn onto Wiegand Road from northbound Route 159.

The Buick struck the front passenger side fender of the semi.

Watson was transported to Red Bud Hospital via Monroe County EMS for treatment of unspecified injuries.
