With season-opening tournaments just concluding, the high school girls basketball schedule starts to heat up as the weather turns cold. 

Gibault is 3-3 on the young season following a 54-19 victory Monday at home over New Athens. The Hawks flew out to an 18-2 lead after the first quarter and never let up. 

On Tuesday, Gibault dropped a 60-50 contest to Chester.

Last Tuesday, Gibault dropped a 37-29 contest at Marissa. Libby Mesch scored 12 points to lead the Hawks, who played Tuesday at Chester and host next Wednesday. 

Waterloo is off to a 3-3 start to its season. 

On Monday, Waterloo lost 61-46 to Highland. Kate Lindhorst scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Waterloo, with Kristin Smith adding 11 points. 

On Tuesday, the Bulldogs best Red Bud by a score of 48-31. Liv Colson led the way with 17 points, seven rebounds and eight steals. Smith added 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Last Tuesday, Waterloo won 58-40 over Belleville West. The Bulldogs got out to a 22-4 lead and held on from there. Lindhorst scored 12 points, Aubrey Heck added 10 points and Colson contributed nine points and 10 rebounds. 

Waterloo played Tuesday at Red Bud, hosts Triad this Friday, plays Saturday at Mt. Vernon and hosts Affton on Wednesday. 

Columbia (2-2) lost 62-53 last Tuesday at Jerseyville. The game was tied 17-17 after the first quarter and 45-45 after three quarters. Jordan Holten, Kinley Jany and Ava Langhans each scored 15 points for the Eagles. 

Columbia play Thursday at Wood River and Saturday at Mascoutah before hosting Wesclin on Monday. 

Valmeyer (1-2) plays Thursday at New Athens before hosting Red Bud next Wednesday. 

Dupo (1-3) plays Thursday at Marissa and Monday at KIPP-St. Louis.
