Three local departments battled a Friday night blaze in rural Monroe County.

Valmeyer, Waterloo and Columbia firefighters responded about 8:40 p.m. to a residence in the 6900 block of D Road northeast of Valmeyer for a fully engulfed structure on fire.

Firefighters remained on scene late into Friday night.

The owner of the property is Larry Gilbert.

The cause of the fire, which caused severe damage to the residence, was not immediately known.
