The Republic-Times Athlete of the Week is Waterloo High School football player Derez Sayles. In his first varsity game, the sophomore running back rushed for 127 yards and touchdown runs of 13 and seven yards in Friday’s season-opening loss for the Bulldogs at home to Mt. Vernon, 55-41.
