WJHS Track | Team of the Week
The Waterloo Junior High School boys track team is this week’s Republic-Times Team of the Week.
The team advanced to the SIJHSAA State track meet this weekend in Carterville.
The WJHS boys and girls teams had a number of medalists, including two state champions for the first time since Zach George won in shot put in 2011.
Eighth grader Noah Hays took the title in the 400-meter run with a time of 53.9, while fellow eighth grader Jake Schwartz topped the podium in the 1,600-meter run, breaking a school record with a time of 4:47.1.

(Kermit Constantine photo)The boys team took an impressive fourth place overall at the state meet, with the help of medalists: Jackson Ivers, eighth place — discus; Ivers, Justin Kohler, Clayton Watters, Jesse Matthews, eighth place — seventh grade 800-meter relay team that set a school record with a time of 1:51.5; Kyle Kneffelkamp, seventh place — high jump; Jarrett Lange, Dawson Holden, Schwartz and Hays, fifth place — 1,600-meter relay; Holden, Hayden Bender, Bradley Koesterer and Hays, fourth place — eighth grade 800-meter relay team that set another school record with a time of 1:42.4; and Schwartz, second place — 800-meter run.
