Daniel H. Hartmann, 82, of Baldwin, died April 12, 2013, in St. Louis, with his family by his side. He had sustained head injuries from a fall at his home.

He was born Dec. 10, 1930, in Baldwin, son of the late Henry and Hilda Hartmann (nee Laufer).

He married Patsy Falkenheim on Oct. 10, 1958, at St. John Lutheran Church, Baldwin; she survives.

Hartmann proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955, when he was honorably discharged. He spent much of that time stationed in Japan. From there, he returned home to join his father in running the family business, Hartmann Farm Supply, Inc., and later he and his brother opened the Millstadt location. He was well-known and well-respected in the family industry. He continued working the New Holland farm implement dealership with his brother, Henry, until the final day of his life.

He was baptized, confirmed and remained a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Baldwin. He was also a member of American Legion Post 619 in Baldwin, and he served the Baldwin Fire Department as a volunteer for more than 55 years. Danny, also known as “The Rabbit” to his friends, was an avid Rams football fan and never missed a game with his football crew.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years; daughters Cheryl Graber (fiance Todd Young) of St. Louis, and  Karen (Jim) Schulz of St. Louis; son Michael Hartmann of Freeburg; grandchildren Ryan (Chelsea) Wegener, Robbie Graber, Taylor and Matthew Schulz, Emily and Jessica Hartmann, and Megan Steibel; great-grandchildren Alexa and Brendyn Wegener and Brayden White; sister Dorothy (Melvin) Kangas of Anacortes, Wash.; brother Henry (Sue) Hartmann of Sparta; and brother-in-law Jim Bradfield of Indio, Calif.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Marian Bradfield.

Visitation was April 15 at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home, Red Bud, and April 16 at St. John Lutheran Church, Baldwin.

Funeral services were April 16 at the church, Rev. John Taggatz officiating.

Interment followed at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Baldwin.
