Vehicle crashes into home near Columbia

The Columbia Fire Department assisted police and EMS in responding to a report of a vehicle crashing into a residence at 429 Hillcastle Road south of Columbia shortly before 8:45 p.m. Friday.

A fire official on scene reported that the vehicle crashed into the front bay window of the home and that the roadway was “extremely slick” due to snow and ice. The driver of the vehicle, a male, reported chest pains at the scene but declined medical transport.

One person inside the home at the time of the crash was not injured.

The residence sustained substantial damage as a result of the crash, a fire official said.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department said that a 2013 KIA Sorento driven by Lucas A. Childs, 19, of Columbia, lost control on the snow-covered roadway and crashed into the house, resulting in major damage to the two large front windows and framing of the residence.
