JB Bridge situation resolved
Emergency agencies responded to the area of the Jefferson Barracks Bridge on I-255 westbound shortly after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday for a subject on the edge of the bridge that may be threatening to jump.
Responding agencies include the Columbia police and fire departments, Columbia EMS, Missouri Highway Patrol, Illinois State Police and St. Louis County Police Department.
Columbia firefighters stationed along the river bank near the bottom of the bridge and also launched its aerial drone to monitor the situation.
The subject, a White male, was walking along on the edge of the bridge, per emergency dispatch reports, with crisis negotiators on scene.
The subject was taken into custody at 8:45 p.m. and transported by ambulance to an area hospital for observation.
During the incident, traffic on I-255 westbound was blocked from the bridge with emergency personnel diverting traffic onto I-255 northbound near Dupo while emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.
The westbound lane was reopened about 8:50 p.m.
The I-255 eastbound lane into Illinois remained unaffected.
