The Republic-Times Athlete of the Week is Waterloo High School cross country runner Joe Schwartz. A senior, Schwartz set a new school record Saturday, placing fourth out of nearly 300 runners in Peoria with a finish time of 14:56. The previous WHS record for a three-mile course was 14:57. Schwartz is looking to improve upon last year’s IHSA Class 2A state meet placing of 16th with a finish time of 15:14.
