Columbia High School bowler Cameron Touchette is this week’s Republic-Times Athlete of the Week.

Touchette became the first freshman to qualify individually for state in the history of the Columbia bowling program this weekend. Touchette was just four pins back from placing first overall in Saturday’s Cahokia IHSA Sectional. He was one of two individuals not on the advancing teams to move on to the State tournament at St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights Friday and Saturday.

The freshman ended the regular-season last week with the best overall team average of 218.10.

Touchette is the fourth Columbia bowler to be named Athlete of the Week this season. Miranda Rodenhofer received the honors earlier in the year after winning the Monroe County Cup tournament and Dallas Schroeder and Reid Glaezner split the honors last week for their achievement of bowling perfect games. Congratulations Cameron, good luck at State!
